There are some fashion trends that will stand the test of time and are worth splurging on, spend more on quality as you will get years of wear from them. Other trends are in and out in a season or two, these are the ones that you may want to enjoy, but don’t waste your money as they will be long gone soon, so look for bargain.
Splurge on:
Animal print – it’s a classic that is here to stay. I’ve noticed that usually more expensive animal print garments have a more attractive print and look higher quality, often the cheaper animal prints look just that, cheap.
Trench coats – a classic coat that can be worn over so many garments, great for milder weather from Autumn and Spring to winter in more moderate climates. If you only have one, buy in a neutral that works with your wardrobe, launch into colours such as red or marine navy.
Tailored pants – these are back in style and a really well cut pair of pants in a great wool fabric will last season after season and create a base for many shirts and tops. Make sure they are as long as possible, without dragging on the ground.
Save on:
Printed pants – there is a trend for printed graphic pants at present, but unless you are and I or V shape who can wear these most successfully, you’ll find they are a less flattering garment, so are unlikely to become firm favourites in your wardrobe, plus we tend to get tired of prints much more quickly than we do of solid fabrics as even though prints are always around, their style varies year to year and can date the garment quickly.
Cape coats – these go in and out of style, so rather than spending lots on one as like the poncho, a couple of seasons and it will look dated, find one on sale or from the cheaper end of the high street.
Coloured jeans – another trend that won’t last long, mainly because it’s harder to mix and match your wardrobe with a coloured jean versus blue denim, and also because colour draws attention, and not so many women want to draw attention to their hips, thighs and butt.
